MAR 30 Usinibore and Kuweni Serious
Kenyan music legends, Just a Band, made history in 2010 with Kenya's first viral video sensation Ha-He featuring Makmende, but did you know they make political documentaries too? Check out both and hear youth from Kenya's capital city sound off on the nation's political climate. (30 minutes)


MAR 23: Fashioning Peace in Kenya
The 2007 elections in President Obama's fatherland, Kenya, sparked a wave of violence that drove over 500,000 out of their homes to tent cities in Kenya and beyond. Filmmaker Joshua Bee Alafia follows Kenyan fashion designers and artists as they raise money to help heal their country's wounds and bring their countrymen home (28 minutes).

What do you get when you cross "The Muppets" with "The Daily Show?" South Africa and Kenya's hit political comedies: The ZA News & The XYZ Show. Featuring skits on our very own President Obama. (25 min)



MAR 09: Battle for the Hearts and Minds + Saving Malcolm
Shorts by 2012 exhibition artists. W.E.B. Du Bois and Marcus Garvey square off for the title of turn-of-the-century black leader in Shani Peters' stop motion animation (10 minutes). Followed by Andrew Beard's tale of a modern day time traveler's fight to stop Malcolm X's assassination (15 minutes). 

MAR 02 In Our Lifetime
On the eve of Obama's election, BedStuy filmmaker Allison Bonner Shillingford invites 7 Afro-Americans who have lived through 15 presidents, Jim Crow, and the Civil Rights Movement to reflect on the possibility of having a black president in their lifetime.
